• Planet Heritage Foundation supported Primatologist and TED Fellow Isabel Behncke Izquierdo as she closely observed the playful behavior of the wild bonobos in Wamba, DR Congo.

• With never-before-seen video, Izquierdo shows how the bonobos are constantly learning from play — solo, with friends, even as a prelude to sex. In fact, play appears to be the apes’ key to problem-solving and avoiding conflict. She challenges us to ask ourselves what can we learn from these happy-go-lucky creatures?

• The Maasai Wilderness Conservation Trust (MWCT) works in true partnership with the Maasai people to protect the Maasailand, while preserving their culture and way of life.
• Norton and MWCT are also continuously creating robust, international private and public partnerships across a spectrum of areas: science, technology, conservation, land design, corporate support, etc – as a means to continue pushing the envelope of collaboration and innovation towards scaled social impact.
• Planet Heritage Foundation is a key partner of MWCT’s “funder’s circle” which supports the core and continued growth of this extraordinary biodiversity conservation model.

• EPIC publishes an award-winning e-mail and online newsletter on civil liberties in the information age – the EPIC Alert.
• They also publish reports and books about privacy, open government, free speech, and other important topics related to civil liberties.

• EWI works in several areas that have serious implications for global security. They bring together high-level thought leaders and policymakers to develop fresh ideas and strategies to defuse potential areas of conflict and secure critical infrastructure.
• EWI’s Preventive Diplomacy initiatives allows them to address crossboundary friction before it devolves into open conflict.
• EWI is working with leading corporations, specialists and governments around the world to mobilize cooperative approaches to cybersecurity.

• In 2009, Planet Heritage Foundation, with Oak Foundation, helped seed the development and launch of the Electrification Coalition (EC), a nonpartisan, not-for-profit group of business leaders committed to the deployment of electric vehicles in the US at mass scale.
• EC created a comprehensive Electrification Roadmap outlining key policy and economic drivers necessary for the deployment of electric vehicles in the US at mass scale.
• EC aligned a coalition of high-level, nonpartisan business leaders to proactively highlight and promote the roadmap’s data.
• A critical piece of legislation was introduced to the House and Senate by both Republicans and Democrats in May 2011. In its best form, the law will lead to a sweeping, national shift towards electrification, with cities competing for billions of dollars to become deployment communities.

• In 2009, Planet Heritage seeded the development and launch of GNCS.
• The network is hosted at the Earth Institute, Columbia University, under the leadership of Dr. Jeffrey Sachs and overseen by two global project Boards, one for adaptation and one for mitigation.
• The Adaptation Program interacts with a range of institutes in developing countries to inform adaptation efforts and plans for global adaptation financing.
• The Mitigation Program is developing a format for comparing the actions that individual countries can take to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, with a focus on sectors and individual gases. Simultaneously, a network of contributing organizations with in-country knowledge is assisting in developing data for this format.

• Between 2010-11, co-developed and launched Oceans Five, a global Funder’s Collaborative with the shared goal of improving conservation of the world’s five oceans.

• The Collaborative, a mix of experienced and new philanthropists, leverages its collective assets to support results-oriented projects and campaigns aimed at constraining overfishing and establishing significant marine reserves.

• Oceans Five manages a portfolio of projects vetted at the highest levels (with the most exceptional level of oversight and reporting) to ensure members clear and measurable social returns within a 2 to 4 year timeframe..

• Founding Board members include Kristian Parker of Oak Foundation, Addison Fischer/Cindy Mercer of Planet Heritage Foundation, Ted Waitt of the Waitt Foundation, Herbert Bedolfe of the Marisla Foundation, and Tracey Durning of 49 prince street.

In 2010, The Mission Blue Voyage brought together over 100 influential scientists, activists, philanthropists, and celebrities seeking smart collaborations and solutions in restoring the health of the oceans.

Funds raised and key initiatives launched as a result of the voyage include:

• $1.1m to complete a package to protect the waters around the Galapagos Islands.
• $1.1m to launch a plan to protect the 1m-square-mile Sargasso Sea and commitments to raise a further $2.5m to see the plan through to success.
• $350k to boost ocean exposure in schools.
• $3.25m to commence a campaign to end fishing subsidies.
• The launch of Oceans Five, a global funders’ collaborative, with $10 million from Planet Heritage and Oak Foundation to kickstart the initiative.
• Shooting of the Mission Blue documentary film commenced.
